Day 3

Today, I would first like to show you a few video websites that you can use in your ESL classrooms. These sites are good because they usually have transcripts and quizzes after the videos. The first one is ESL Videos, the second one is Lingual.Net

The rest of the websites, I will show you today focus more on sentence structure and vocabulary.

The first one is called PicLits where your students have to describe a picture by dragging words, phrases, and sentences on to it to make slogans or advertisements. Here is an example of something you can make on this site:
PicLit from PicLits.com

Another great site is WordSift which is a place where you can insert (paste) text but this time it sorts the vocabulary from the most common to the least common. You can also click on any of the vocabulary to see pictures of that words and examples of that word used in sentences.

One of the best early phonics/reading websites for children which I've found is called Starfall. This interactive site teaches everything from the sounds of all the individual letters in the alphabet to how to read words with both short and long vowel sounds. It has a bunch of storybooks at the higher levels where kids can listen as they read along, plus a lot of interactive games which introduce a lot of vocabulary.

Other good sites for introductory phonics/reading are MeeGenius Library where you can listen to and personalize children's stories, Bitesize which has a lot of interactive literacy games and Word Builder where you can build words!
